Lechlade Garden Centre was one of three garden centres belonging to Park Garden Centres. The other two branches are based in Cheddar and Almondsbury. All three were owned and run by the Hodges family and their history in the gardening business goes back to 1933 when the Almondsbury branch was opened as a market garden.
Lechlade garden centre was a run down declining business when the Hodges bought it in 1992. In 1997 Keith Hodges retired from running the Lechlade business and his son took over with very different ideas for the future. In September 2013 both the Lechlade Garden Centre and the Cheddar Garden Centre were sold to Wyevale Garden Centres.
This is a large garden centre and the stock of plants is very extensive and they are tip top quality. The paths are wide and clutter free and the plants are well marked up with useful information.
Inside they have a large aquatics section, a comprehensive pets department, gifts, books, garden and conservatory furniture and all those non-essential items which larger garden centres stock nowadays.
On site is their Hodges restaurant with 250 seats. The food and drinks range from snacks to main meals and there is an outdoor seating area for sunny days. The restaurant was awarded 4 stars (out of a maximum 5) for food hygiene by Cotswold District Council in June 2013.
