Sales Down 25% 1st Quarter 2013 |
|
The cause is simply the cold and wet weather in the first three months of 2013. Gardeners stayed at home in the warm rather than venture out into their gardens and garden centres. The last two weeks of April saw trade begin to pick up and the sunny (mostly) first week of May saw a staggering increase of 70% over 2012. Predictions are for a warm and dry June so we recommend gardeners get down to their garden centres this May Bank Holiday even if the weather is still on the cool side. As with all reports of profits or losses in the gardening industry, not all sectors are equally affected. Especially successful in the cool first quarter of 2013 was the garden centre food and cafe business which thrived. |
