CAFE REVIEW
THE FOOD
The menu at Scotsdales Garden Centre cafe is extensive with a large
range of main meals, lots of snack meals including baked potatoes,
paninis, sandwiches, soup, cakes, teas and coffees.
we sampled the jacket potato and a panini and the quality was good.
We also sampled a gammon steak main meal with potatoes and peas.
This cost £8.99 and the quality justified the price. The gammon
steak was well cooked, not too salty and tasted delicious. The
potatoes were excellent and the peas were in fact petit pois.
Overall we rate the food quality at the high end of the scale.
DECOR AND SEATING
The first thing that's clear when you enter the main cafe is the
lack of light. It all looks rather dingy purely because there are no
windows with direct sunlight on them. A pity really because the
entire cafe is custom built and a lot more pleasant compared to many
other cafes.
There are three seating areas, the man indoors cafe, a conservatory
area and an out door seating area. The conservatory area is lighter
than the main cafe and probably best if you want to sit under cover.
It has views of the garden centre along one side. The seating
arrangement is a simple set of rows of conservatory style tables and
chairs and we feel that more effort could have been expended on the
layout, the cafe is certainly large enough for it.
SERVICE
There is very little queue to order your food but our food took 20
minutes to be served to our table - too long for a cafe of this
type. The reason is clear, there simply aren't enough staff to clear
up the tables and serve the food. All hot food is served to your
table by pleasant staff.
THE PRICES
Overall prices are average for a cafe of this type but the
relatively high quality of the food makes those prices good value.
Sample price s include soup and a roll at £3.99, main meals are
around the £8 to £9 level, jacket potatoes £4.25 to £5.25, coffee is
£1.50 to £1.75.
CONCLUSION
The cafe at Scotsdales Garden Centre serves good quality food at
competitive prices. The downside is a long wait for it to be served.
