RANGE OF FOOD
There are breakfasts, main meals, snack meals, coffee / tea and
cakes. A range of savoury dishes (snack meals, definitely not
sufficient for a main meal) is offered and these are of a type not
usually found in garden centre centre cafes.
Soups are also on offer as is a choice of salads and baguettes, baked potatoes and sandwiches.
QUALITY OF FOOD
The quality of the food is very good, it tastes freshly made and the
ingredients are of high quality. We can thoroughly recommend the
quiches which are served with a fresh crunchy salad. In fact all the
food we selected, and we visited twice, tasted very good including
the main meals. If you are visiting for just coffee and and a cake
you also will not be disappointed. There are lots of cakes to choose
from and they taste good.
DECOR AND SEATING
This is a modern, large cafe at the the Grosvenor Garden Centre with
real wood tables and chairs, a tiled floor and maintained to a high
standard. The cafe is in its own dedicated area apart from the main
garden centre and has a free Wi-Fi connection.
SERVICE
Queuing time was almost non-existent for both our visits. All the
food is served at the counter.
THE PRICES
The menu for the cafe is not published online as far as we could
find. There may well be a good reason for this - the cost of the
food is much more expensive compared to other similar cafes.
For prices you would be safe to assume that they are 20 per cent or more than you might expect. Next time we visit we will attempt to photograph the menu.
OPENING HOURS
Monday to Saturday the cafe at Grosvenor Garden Centre is open from
8.30am to 5.00pm. On Sundays from 10am to 4.00pm.
CONCLUSION
An up market cafe selling up-market food at above
average prices. If that is your "cup of tea" then we recommend you
give them a visit.
The Food Hygiene Rating of 3 stars out of 5 is very unusual for a cafe of this size. The vast majority of large garden centre cafes have a rating of 5 stars. This is the first large garden centre cafe we have encountered this year with such a low rating, rather concerning.
THE OUTSIDE AREA
The area immediately outside the main garden centre building is
covered, leading onto a more open area. This area is also partially
covered with a main semi-circular path that is covered, So when
there is rainy weather this is a good garden centre to choose.
The plants area is very large, very attractively laid out with lots of interest points and no boring straight line paths. The paths themselves are very wide and maintained very well.
What was surprising was the lack of signs in such a large plants area. There were some signs but not nearly enough to easily navigate around the site.
Water features feature prominently at the Grosvenor Garden Centre. There are lots to choose from and they are laid out in an attractive manner. Nearby there are numerous types of stones, grits and paving.
THE PLANTS
The hardy plants are covered by an
excellent five year guarantee. Our inspection of the plants confirms
that they are in tip top condition, well watered and free from
weeds.
There are so many plants at this garden centre that the average gardener will be spoilt for choice. The choice of roses is huge and they have set aside a special area for shade loving plants.
This area is protected from the sun by a wooden slatted roof which is a very pleasant feature of the outdoor plants area, a far cry from the normal netting at most other garden centres. Conifers are also something of a speciality for this garden centre as are large container plants for instant effect.
As far as prices go, they all appear to be slightly higher than the average.
INSIDE SALES AREA
The interior sales area at the Grosvenor Garden Centre is large and
impressive. Our personal opinion is that they have designed this
area very well. It avoids the feeling of being in a posh, clinical
department store but at the same time it is modern and pleasantly
laid out. We liked it very much.
This is a very large area and they sell everything you would expect of a large modern garden centre. Gardening goods and non-gardening goods are comprehensively covered. Books, cards, bird feed, clothes, indoor / outdoor furniture, barbecues, kids toys, kitchen shop, food hall, shoes and lots more are all here, pleasantly laid out to make shopping a pleasure.
They also have an impressive display of quality houseplants at slightly higher than normal prices, but they are in excellent condition. The number of varieties available was bewildering!
Excellent all round with wheelchairs at the entrance.

Very pleasant garden centre to browse and generally have snoop around for ideas. But the prices are just too high, far cheaper at other nearby garden centres. I remember last Christmas, the displays were amazing and our son loved them. Look to get some ideas but buy elsewhere is what I think. |
