REVIEW RESULTS - WOODCOTE GREEN GARDEN CENTRETHE OUTSIDE AREA The plants area has been designed after some considerable thought and that effort has paid off making it an attractive shopping destination. The outside area has an unusually large amount of covered shopping space and this is split into three or four separate very large glasshouses. This divides the space into smaller areas thus avoiding the boring long rows of plants found in so many of today's modern garden centres. There are many island beds and central features which provide additional interest and even the plant display bays are constructed from varying materials. The paths are wide and paved with only the smaller paths being on hard gravel. The plants area is large and benefits from very clear signs with plant groups being in alphabetical order - a lesson on how to do it well for many other garden centres. If you are looking for a specific plant at this large garden centre, the signs enable you to locate it very quickly. One feature that cannot help but catch the eye on entry is the express drive-thru facility, something we have never seen before in the hundreds of garden centre reviews we have so far undertaken. It's a touch of lateral thinking for a garden centre. The idea being that customers who only want specific large items such as bags of compost can simply drive down a designated lane, load the goods into their car and drive off after paying at the dedicated till. A brilliant idea which other garden centres could well adopt. At many garden centres the compost and other heavy items have been placed at been placed at the far end of the plants area which may be convenient for the garden centre but not the customer. We have often heard customers complain about this. The drive thru facility at Woodcote Green is clearly a well-placed response to customer needs. To one side of the plants area is a huge space devoted to greenhouses and garden buildings from the humble small shed to larger more elaborate garden out buildings. If sheds or greenhouses are on your shopping list the Woodcote Garden Centre is a good destination. They also have a smaller selection of conservatories.
THE PLANTS Not only are the plants of good quality but the prices are some of the best we have seen for a long time. Not only are the prices of the plants competitive at Woodcote Garden Centre but also general gardening goods. In some areas the prices are as much as 30% lower compared to similar sized garden centres in the area. Some example prices include Westland 75l multipurpose compost at only £3.99 or three bags for £10, economy fork / spade at £9.99 or two for £16, stainless steel Bentley fork / spade at £22.99, Miracle Gro 1kg £2.99 (on special offer), Tomorite 1 litre £3.99, roses starting at £5.99, clematis from £6.99 and potentillas from £5.99.
INSIDE WOODCOTE GREEN GARDEN CENTRE The interior sales area is well laid out with wide, mainly level aisles. In common with many other garden centres the ceiling is metal beamed but here they have hidden the majority of the metal work with white plastic panels. This is a halfway house between a false ceiling and leaving all the ugly beams exposed. Other garden centres with an ugly open ceiling could well learn from Woodcote Green because the solution they have come up with is relatively cheap yet improves the looks and general ambience of the area considerably. They currently have no club / reward membership scheme at this garden centre.
