The Long Ditton Garden Centre follows the pattern of other Squire's garden centres with good quality plants, plainly laid out exterior sales areas and an interior sales area with a large area devoted to gifts, homeware and similar items.
The outside plants area is paved attractively and reasonably well laid out. There are signs to direct customers to particular types of plants. The plants at all Squires garden centres are almost all bought in from external suppliers and Long Ditton is no different. The vast majority (90%) they sell are sourced from the UK. The quality of the plants is definitely high although their is no individuality between different Squire's garden centres, the majority for sale are the same whichever garden centre sells them. All hardy plants come with a 3 year guarantee.
There are several companies which sell their products in the outside sales area, one of the largest being Astral who sell a good selection of conservatories, doors and windows. These are well displayed. Another company at Long Ditton garden centre is Creative Living Cabins. Their display at this garden centre is one of only three in the country and well worth a look even if you aren't interested in log cabins. The show area is fascinating, illustrating just how sophisticated a wooden structure can be. Of course, prices are high but the materials and expertise are beyond doubt
Inside there is the normal range of goods you would expect from a largish garden centre. Gifts, gardening accessories, bird and pet care, books, garden and conservatory furniture, barbecues and lots more.
Long Ditton Garden Centre celebrate Christmas in style. Last year Santa arrived in an impressive red Ferrari rather than a sleigh and took up residence in his grotto from late November to December 23rd (weekends only). Kids can visit Santa for free and a donation to charity will ensure a present.
They currently have no club / reward membership scheme at Squires garden centres. Click here if you want to see a comparison of garden garden centres which do have reward / discount cards.
The Christmas display is attractive and worth a visit with seasonal gifts, food, synthetic and real trees as well as lots of decorations.
They serve breakfast until 11.30am and the Brunch Breakfast with a choice of nine items is very good value. Both main meals (around £9) and snack meals (£5 to £8) are served including salads, sandwiches baked potatoes and paninis. Prices are slightly higher than we would expect but not vastly so. The cafe opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and on Sundays from 10am to 4.30pm.
The cafe was awarded five stars for food hygiene in July 2013 by Elmbridge Borough Council.
Other garden centres nearby include Derby Garden Centre, Collyer's Nurseries which is family run and Lanes Garden Centre.
