REVIEW RESULTS - BOURNEVILLE
GARDEN CENTRE
Before reporting our review results for this garden centre we would
like to confirm that, in one form or another, we have been
conducting garden centres for over five years. We are aware that at
specific times of the year (January and February for example) garden
centre stock may be low. We adjust our review expectations for the
time of year.
This review of Bourneville Garden Centre was conducted on a Saturday
in July. During the previous three weeks we had conducted reviews on
eight other garden centres. So we are well aware of the levels and
types of plant stock normally held at this time of year.
THE OUTSIDE AREA
Bourneville is a small to medium sized garden centre owned by Wyevale Garden Centres, The outside area consisted of the plants area
where the plant bays were arranged in symmetrical and boring rows.
Little thought or effort had been expended to make the area
interesting or inspiring for customers.
The signs are large and clear enabling easy navigation around the
plants area. The paths were clear and although narrower than normal,
large enough for easy access. Around 25% of the plants area was
under cover.
THE PLANTS
This is a severe problem area for Bourneville. The plant quality was
good and they carry a five year hardy plant guarantee. But around
half the display bays were empty. The plants had been bunched up
into one area. This also had the effect that although the overhead
signs were clear many had no plants in that area and those that did
had incorrect plants.
If you plan to visit this garden centre then keep an open mind about
which plants you want. The stock, when we visited anyway, was so low
that many common plants were not available. As a hard example, we
found only two fruit trees for sale.
INSIDE BOURNEVILLE GARDEN CENTRE
The interior sales area at Bourneville Garden Centre is another
story. This is not a large garden centre so they have done the
correct thing by devoting most of the area to gardening good. Yes
there are gifts, cards and a few other goods for sale but not many.
The display of houseplants however was impressive for a garden
centre of this size.
Bourneville Garden Centre have their own club card scheme (Wyevale Garden Centres scheme) with various benefits for their members.
Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden
centres can be found by
clicking here.
If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a
purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and
rewards.
DISABLED ACCESS
Good all round although the car park is on a significant slopes in
some places.
OTHER STUFF
Car park - Hard surface on a slope in some places.
Pet Centre - We saw none
Aquatics - We saw none
Water Features - We saw none
Sheds and Greenhouses - Very few
CONCLUSION
Bourneville is not a garden centre we would recommend unless they
improve the amount of stock to correspond to the space available.
The atmosphere is also not good with very few customers even when we
visited at 11.30 on a Saturday morning.
