FARNHAM GARDEN CENTRE TOUR

The area around Farnham has a good choice of garden centres and nurseries. We thought you might like to visit three of our recommended ones on a tour which is only 9 miles long during May.

Going from south to north (the tour can also be done in the opposite direction) start out at Millais Nurseries. The display gardens at this nursery are a delight, full of rhododendrons azaleas and camellias dung May.

The display gardens are only open during May but the trial grounds are open all year round. Also, during May the nursery is open seven days a week. As well as the display gardens take a look around the plants nursery and maybe buy a plant or two. If you have clay or chalk soil don't despair, they sell rhododendrons grown on Inkarho root stock which thrives in chalk and clay soils.

Now leave the nursery and head towards Frensham Garden Centre which is about 3.5 miles away through very pleasant Surrey roads. Our recommendation for this garden centre is to have some lunch there and wander round the inside shopping area. The Food hall is particularly impressive even if it is on the expensive side. If you enjoy meat then we can recommend the butchers in the Food Hall.

For those who prefer a pub for their lunch then the nearby (one mile) Duke of Cambridge in Tilford is an excellent choice. It serves excellent food and drink and the garden and has a kids play area. For those looking to have lunch out in the open with a picnic we recommend stopping off at Frensham Little Pond. This is a delightful area for a picnic with superb views and designated bench areas. Parking and entry are free.

Having refuelled with food and taken in some of the retail joys of Frensham Garden Centre it's time to head off to Seale Nurseries which are about five miles away, again through some charming Surrey roads.

Seale Nurseries specialise in roses and the choice they have there is enormous. The plants are all grown on site and they have a patented method for grafting roses in containers, the Seale Super Rose Method, to ensure healthy plants and early flowering. They have been in business from 1948 and have some magnificent fully grown large rose specimens for instant impact. They have one of the best choices of fragrant roses in the UK.

They also offer a Rose Rescue Service which is useful if you have a rose which is reaching the end of its life. They will graft a stem of it onto a rootstock and hey presto your new rose bush will last for another 35 years or so.

We hope you enjoy our suggested tour of Farnham horticultural life and would be pleased to hear from you if you take it. Contact us at webmaster@justgardencentres.com to express your views and let us know of any improvements to it.
