CAFE REVIEW FOR WHITEHALL LACOCK GARDEN CENTRE
THE PRICES
Prices are about average for the quality of food. Main meals cost
around £7.50 as do salads. The excellent cakes are normally £2.49,
with coffee and tea at £1.99, jacket potatoes range from £3.99 to
£5.49. The kids menu is set set at £4.29 for five items.
RANGE OF FOOD
A full range of main meals, snacks, drinks and cakes is on offer at
this cafe. No fewer than six main meals gave an excellent choice.
The cafe is licensed with a small range of beers, lagers and wines,
QUALITY OF FOOD
The food we sampled tasted fresh, good quality and good value for
the prices.
DECOR AND SEATING
The decor and seating is disappointing, especially the overall
standard of decoration. The tables and chairs are wood effect
plastic and arranged mainly in long boring rows. The cafe area is
set off the main garden centre in a separate area. It is all one
room, no coffee or family area.
No thought has has been given to decoration, with plain walls
dominating. The
ceiling is oppressive, exposed metal girders with some attempt given
to masking them by hanging green wooden trellis work which is not
particularly pleasant. The lighting looks like it is from a previous
decade and sorely in need of a good clean. The only redeeming
feature is a long window running all down one side of the cafe which
gives pleasant views of the outside plants area.
SERVICE
Service is efficient, pleasant and quick at the cafe with no
significant queues.
CONCLUSION
The food is good in quantity, range, quality and price. The decor is
dated and in need of refurbishment.
