REVIEW RESULTS

THE PLANTS AREA
The outdoor area displays the plants in a very plain and functional manner with no major displays or attempt to inspire. It is simply a collection of plants laid out in a rather regimented manner.

A small part of the area is under cover to protect more tender plants but the vast majority is uncovered. The paths are wide and free of obstructions with mostly concrete surfaces. Some smaller paths were gravel but this was hard enough to allow for wheelchair access.

THE PLANTS
The plants at Squires Garden Centre, Windsor, were in good condition, well watered and well fed. Quality is assured with Squire's three year hardy plant guarantee. The range of plants was large for a garden centre of this size. There were no particular areas of specialisation though you are likely to find most plants you are looking for plus a few more unusual plants. The overhead signs were a slightly less visible compared to many other garden centres but they are definitely there and will help you find your way around this garden centre.

Prices were about average, slightly lower than average in many cases. Examples of common plants include roses from 6.99 and clematis from the same price. Squires own brand multi-purpose compost was 4.99 for a 75 litre bag or 3 bags for 12 which is very good values.

INSIDE SQUIRES GARDEN CENTRE, WINDSOR
This is a largish garden centre and therefore the interior of Squires Garden Centre can't rely on the charm of a small traditional garden centre. But the exposed, unattractive metal beams are on display throughout giving an untidy appearance.

The range of gardening goods is extensive however and they stock everything the average gardener would need. There was a good selection of barbecues and garden furniture both of which were well displayed.

There was plenty of non-gardening goods on offer as well. Cards, gifts, clothing etc were all well represented.

DISABLED ACCESS
The layout of Squires Garden Centre at Windsor is well designed for disabled access. Wide paths give good access to most areas.

SQUIRES WINDSOR CAFE
The cafe was not purpose built. Rather, it is an area of the garden centre which has been partitioned off by unattractive boarding. The ceiling was the bare roof of the building with all the metal girders exposed.

Having said that, everything was clean and tidy and there was a good number of cafe customers when we visited. The main meal specials were in the range 6 to 8 and there was a good selection of them; eight in all which is exceptional for a garden centre.

The food was, in general, of good quality, well cooked and served in good time. There were no queues and service was prompt and friendly. Also on offer were breakfasts from 2.99, jacket potatoes starting at 3.55, toasties and paninis from 3.75 plus a very good selection of cakes, teas and coffees.

The Season's Coffee Shop was awarded a five star food hygiene rating by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in February 2013.
