CAFE REVIEW

QUALITY OF FOOD
Food quality is good at the Monkton Elm Four Seasons restaurant. We tasted one of their main meals, the pie at £6.95. For that you get a large portion of cottage pie with good quality meat and topped with tasty cheese. The vegetables are well-cooked although the roast potatoes were on the chewy side.

Breakfasts are served from opening time (9.00am) up until 11.30am with sausage and bacon baps or a full English breakfast. Main meal lunches are served from 11.30am to 2.30pm with a carvery on Wednesday and Sunday - meat is sourced locally from Pyne's butchers of Somerset. The restaurant is light and airy with lots of windows and there is an outdoor seating area. There is a dedicated children's play area.

The Four Seasons restaurant and Pondside Cafe (see below) were visited by the Food Standards Agency in February 2014 and they were once again awarded the top five star rating for food hygiene.

For lighter meal there is the Pondside Cafe which, true to its name, is next to a largish pond inhabited by lots of ducks. The serve sandwiches, snacks, kids meals, coffees, teas and cakes. This also has both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

DECOR AND SEATING
There are three separate areas to the restaurant. The main area has painted wooden furniture with pleasant surroundings. You then go through to the conservatory area which is pleasantly airy. The furniture here is a mixture of wooden and metal. The decor is modern and pleasant.

Finally the outside area overlooks the plants area and is an excellent eating area for warm days.

SERVICE
Service is quick and pleasant. Main meals are on display so you are served at the counter and take your meal to a table. There were no queues when we visited

THE PRICES
Prices are slightly lower than average which is excellent because the quality of the food is above average.

CONCLUSION
Good quality food at below average prices in a pleasant setting.
