Highfield Garden World was originally started by Edward Bazeley in 1920 in Haverfordwest. At that time the business specialised in growing willows, ash, oaks and other large trees. In 1935 the existing site was deemed too small and the nursery moved to Whitminster and developed into a thriving mail order company, an idea very advanced in those times.

Edward's son, Bonham, took over running the business in the 1960s and when he retired in 1987 the business sadly passed out of the Bonham family into the care of two of the company directors, Trevor Wellington and Joan Greenway in 1987.

A decision was made by the company to purchase extra land a mile or so away from the nursery site to expand into growing roses as well as trees. Soon after that the rose nursery was significantly expanded into a fully fledged garden centre which was opened in 1992 by famous horticulturalist Geoff Hamilton. The tree business was run under the management of Trevor Wellington (it closed in 2010) with Tim Greenway managing the day to day running of Highfield Garden World.

Although not in the top 100 largest UK garden centres, Highfield is reasonably large and they certainly stock a good range of healthy plants. As you might expect given their history they stock an excellent range of ornamental and fruit trees. As well as tree they stock a good choice of shrubs, roses, climbers, bedding plants, alpines and herb plants.

As well as plants and a comprehensive range of garden accessories, Highfield also stock garden and home furniture, barbecues, gifts cards and much more.

The modern designed restaurant (enlarged in 2015) serves a full range of main meals, light lunches and snacks including cakes, coffees and teas. The range of breakfast meals is a delight.

They have a pet store and service garden macines. Work is currently underway to expand the sales area.
