The present owners purchased Staunton Harold Nurseries in 1990 and have significantly renovated it over the years. It is situated on the Staunton Harold Estate which is now an office complex, host of weddings and the very large Ferrers Craft Centre. There are lovely walks to the nearby church and lake and the estate is a magnet for tourists and those just wanting to wander round.
The plants for sale at Staunton Harold Nurseries tend to be slightly unusual so be aware that some of the more common plants may not be sold. This is good and sometimes not so good depending on what you are looking for. Prices tend to be on the high side so keep an eye on your wallet.
In the middle of the garden centre is a Victorian conservatory which houses the garden centre Peach Tea Room. The setting and the decor are undeniably beautiful but anything more than a tea or coffee is too highly priced for average quality food. the Stable Tea Rooms in the Ferers Craft Centre offers better food at lower prices. Inside the garden centre they stock only basic gardening accessories but do have a good range of garden furniture and some unusual gifty type items.
Starting in early to mid October the garden centre interior is transformed, albeit slowly, into a Christmas shopping area. The displays are well-executed and the kids will love them. Again though, prices are on the high side.
Santa makes arrives with his reindeer in November and takes up residence in his grotto ready to talk to the children and give those who pay a present. Cost is £6 per child and that includes a train ride through the entrance to Santa's grotto. For adults it costs £1 but they get no present of course!
