Squires opened their Twickenham branch in 1964, the first of many in their expanding chain of garden centres (currently 14 outlets). There is a good choice of plants for sale although they tend to stick to the old favourites rather than providing any specialist areas of their own. Hardy plants have a three year guarantee. The quality is good and the plants are well displayed although in a rather plain, regimented fashion.
Composts, fencing, pots and stoneware are also on sale to one side of the outdoor sales area.
Inside they sell all the gardening accessories you will need at average prices. They have a large pet centre which sells pet feeds and accessories as well as a surprisingly large range of small pets including some more exotic reptiles. The aquatics centre has recently been extended and will satisfy all your needs for live fish, tanks, accessories and feeds.
They currently have no club / reward membership scheme at Squires garden centres. Click here if you want to see a comparison of garden garden centres which do have reward / discount cards.
The menu has also been spruced up and includes a good choice of snacks, starters, main meals, coffees, teas and cakes. At the same time, the prices are higher than we would expect. For example sausages and mash is pricey £8.95 as is fish and chips. They have also tried to impress by giving some of the dishes unusual or foreign names. One particular £10 dish is called "Poulet Grille" which is French for grilled chicken. Why not just call it by its English name and be done with it!
The Season's Coffee Shop at Squires Twickenham Garden centre was awarded a five star food hygiene rating by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in February 2012.
