OUR OPINION OF NORTON GARDEN CENTRE

THE PLANTS AREA AT NORTON GARDEN CENTRE

Entrance to Norton Garden Centre The plants area is medium sized with a small area under cover and a short covered path. It's easy to get round this garden centre with wide and solid surface paths. Finding specific plants is a bit difficult though because the signs are not sufficient and the plant grouping was erratic. They stock a good selection of plants with most being in good condition.

They stock a good selection of plants with most being in good condition. A good proportion of the plants are grown on site.

The overall appearance is good with small plant bays although there were no significant displays or centre pieces.

Sample prices include 60 litre multi-purpose compost at £3.99 or three bags for £10, they do not sell Tomorite, potentillas are £5.99, clematis are from £8.49, roses are from £7.49. Overall, prices were slightly lower compared to similar garden centres.

INSIDE NORTON GARDEN CENTRE
The interior is that of a medium-sized garden centre. They stock most gardening items you would require. They also stock a small selection of cards, gifts and other non-gardening items. A larger than normal proportion of the interior sales area was devoted to garden furniture.

CAFE AT NORTON GARDEN CENTRE
The cafe is in its own stand alone area and is divided into the main seating area and a couple of settees as a coffee area. The decor is all very basic with plastic furniture and an open ceiling exposing metal beams, although the overall impression is of a friendly and pleasant place to have a coffee or snack meal. The cafe is kept clean and there were no queues during our visit. Staff are very friendly.

The cafe serves teas, coffees, cakes and light lunches such as baked potatoes (£5 to £6), sandwiches, toasties (£5.50), baguettes and paninis (around £6). They serve breakfasts in the morning although there are baps or sandwiches.

Strangely, everything is served to your table. We saw one customer order a coffee and a chocolate bar and even that was served to the table. Be aware that they do not accept credit cards in the cafe, unusual because a lunch with a couple of coffees could easily cost £15.
