Hilltop Garden Centre was bought by the Hillview Group on 7th June
2012.
It was then bought by British Garden Centres and renamed
Charlbury Garden Centre. Note to myself, the Hill Top GC page
needs to be renamed as Charlbury GC.
Hilltop have arranged the plants area very well with a
few unusual features. Firstly, the area is mainly on a
concrete surface with some of the side paths being of
gravel. Finding your way round the area is no problem with
very clear signs. Those signs have been carved into wood and
then painted, they look very attractive and a world away
from most of the stark printed signs which appear in most
garden centres.
The plant bays have been kept small thus avoiding dreary
and long rows of plants. At the front of the garden centre
and in the borders of the main area there are lots of plants
growing in natural situations.
The plants have small name plates so that you know
exactly what they are. A great idea because you can see how
they will look in your garden.
If you fancy a break whilst looking for plants then try the Nature
Trail which starts at the far end of the garden centre. There is
pond nearby which is pleasantly laid out. All in all the outside
sales area is well laid out.
This is a large garden centre and there is a wide selection of
plants, all in good condition, to choose from. Prices are about
average for a garden centre of this size.

CAFE AT HIL TOP GARDEN CENTRE
The Flower Pot cafe decor has clearly been chosen on a budget. The
chairs and tables are plain plastic and the flooring is plain
concrete garden paving. The large window to one side of the cafe
does however give it a light and airy atmosphere.
The food is good, tasty and well-presented. This cafe has a five
(out of five) start hygiene rating from the local authority,
something very few garden centre cafes achieve. Service is quick and
efficient with very little queuing required. Main meals, breakfasts,
light meals, snacks, coffees and teas are served. Overall, the basic
decor aside, we can recommend this cafe for a tea and cake or a main
meal.
INSIDE SALES AREA
It's typical of medium to large sized garden centre selling a full
range of gardener's needs and all the gifty stuff plus books, cards,
furniture, bird and pet feeds etc. which other large garden centres
sell.
