PLANTS AND PRODUCTS
The garden centre was previously known as the Swan Garden
Centre and was originally a modest business. Haskins bought it
in 1991 and over the next few years expanded it considerably
with a re-opening ceremony in 1996. The principles of this
garden centre were based on the already successful Haskins
Ferndown Garden Centre.
The plants area is very large and
there are lots of useful signs to guide you around the area.
None of the plants are grown
on site any more, they are all bought in using the Haskins
central buying team. The plants do look healthy though and they
are well displayed. The whole area is clean with wide paths
which are very wheel chair friendly.
The interior sales area is large as well selling all the
gardening tools and accessories you could possibly want. Books,
barbecues, gifts, garden furniture and lots more are also for
sale in the modern surroundings.
THE CAFE AT THE HASKINS WEST END GARDEN CENTRE
The cafe is massive having undergone a £500,000 development in
2012. It's modern looking with several different seating area
types. You either like this type of cafe or don't, it's all down
to personal preference. A lack of character and atmosphere is
our major dislike.
The food though is good quality if
slightly on the expensive side. They call it a restaurant but in
fact you still queue up for your food and take it to your table.
The range of food is extensive from snacks right though to full
main meals. The pizza oven is particularly impressive.
