Harlestone Heath is about two miles north of Northampton and on the A428. It is modern and purpose built looking very impressive as you park your car. The plant sales area is large and designed in almost grid like fashion. The plants are varied and there is good choice for almost all gardeners. There is a covered area which displays seasonal plants and other goods. They stock a full range and their hardy plants have a life time guarantee.

The interior sales area is modern and has a spacious feel to it, it's definitely on the large size. Garden accessories are well stocked and the prices are average for a large garden centre. The are lots of gift sections, a cookware department and enough garden furniture to deck out all the houses in Harlestone! Bird care seems to catching on in a major way nowadays and Harlestone Heath garden centre has everything you might want. They claim to be dog friendly at this garden centre.

Maidenhead Aquatics have an excellent store with live fish, ponds, tanks, feeds and general fish keeping accessories alongside a good choice of pond plants. They always have a good selection but this particular branch is even better than normal with an excellent choice of unusual cichlids and other rare fish.

Other large in store departments include the the bookshop The Works, Pets Corner (no live pets), Cotton Traders and the Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

THE CAFE AT HARLESTONE HEATH GARDEN CENTRE

The cafe is reasonably standard for this chain of garden centres with a clean modern interior but lacking in any real design flair, utilitarian is the way we would describe it. They offer hot lunches, snack meals, cakes and drinks.

The cafe was awarded a three star rating for food hygiene in July 2012 by Daventry District Council. This is lowest rating we have ever seen for a Wyevale Garden Centres cafe, they are normally five star or sometimes four star. A three star rating is not good for a large cafe however they are due for another review soon so hopefully it will improve. Click here for the full report.
