Dobbies Garden Centre, Rugby started life as Bernhard's Corner Nursery but was virtually raised to the ground in 2005 when Blooms bought and massively redeveloped it. In turn Blooms were taken over by Wyevale Garden Centres in 2007 who left it largely as it was.
In 2019 Wyevale sold 31 of its garden centres to Dobbies, one of those was this garden centre. It is a large sized garden centre which Dobbies have updated.

SIZE: Large, surprisingly so given the overall size of the garden centre.
FOOD TYPE: Garden centre type of food with everything from coffees to main meals and breakfasts.
FOOD QUALITY: We sampled a couple of their cakes and coffees and can report that they tasted fresh and well baked, the coffees were good as well.
DECOR: Very uninspiring. The tables and the area in general is clean although some of the seating is stained and in need of replacement with seating less likely to show wear.
OUTDOOR SEATING: There is a covered outside seating area which is very plain and unattractive. The area is in need of decoration and frankly depressing.
SERVICE: To get two coffees and two cakes took 20 minutes in the queue for service - about average for a Dobbies type cafe. Main meals are served to your table. Service was pleasant and courteous.
VALUE FOR MONEY: About average for a cafe of this type
TOP TIP: About 3 minutes drive away from Dobbies is Bungalow Nurseries. Visit them before going on to Dobbies. Their bedding plants are cheaper, in the very best condition and they are grown on site not imported in from somewhere else. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Bungalow Nurseries have an extensive fruit and veg shop selling cut flowers, lots of home-baked goodies and much more. All at excellent prices and quality. Agreed, it's a very small nursery but the quality of what they sell is tip top.
SIZE OF PLANTS AREA: Large
PLANT SELECTION: About average for an area of this size.
LAYOUT: As you exit the main indoor area you enter a covered area houses the tender plants and gardening accessories. The roof is clear, letting in lots of light but it is in severe need of a good clean as are the walls.
Walls and ceiling in need of a good clean
The main plants area has a covered path around it, the remaining areas are uncovered. The whole area is solid and level with wide paths.

There are plenty of signs to show where plant groups can be found although they could do with being placed slightly higher for better visibility. Sometimes the signs are misleading. For instance, we headed over to the sign reading Clematis but there was not a clematis to be found in the plant bays beneath the sign.
The area has a rather boring layout - nothing particularly wrong with it but nothing to recommend it.
Plants area at Dobbies Rugby
VALUE FOR MONEY: Slightly below average. The cheapest rose we could find was £17 and the cheapest clematis we could find was £13.
SIZE: This is a largish interior sales area.
LAYOUT: We were left with the impression that the balance of the different types of stock was slightly unbalanced. For example there is a very good choice of houseplants and an even larger choice of garden furniture and pet foods at the expense of everyday gardening items.
The area has a flat and solid surface with very wide paths allowing easy access. The lighting is poor and has a rather depressing feel to it.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Average for a garden centre of this type
ACCESS: Very good
