We visited Dobbies in Gailey towards the end of
September and found that many of the plant bays were empty.
This reduced the selection of plants available to an
unacceptable level and we wondered what was going on!
Further investigations revealed that many Dobbies garden
centres reduce their stock after the summer peak period to a
very low level. A very strange way to operate a garden
centre. |
|
If you click the picture on the left you will be able to
see more clearly some large weeds set amongst this plant for
sale. Many others were in a similar condition. So we can't
really recommend a trip to this garden centre out of season
because not only is the plant selection low but the
condition of the plants is not up to Dobbies normal high
standards. We will visit Dobbies in Gailey again at a
different time of year and let you know how we find it. |

CAFE AT DOBBIES GAILEY
All the normal food is available at Dobbies Gailey cafe with a range
of snack foods and three main meal specials at around the £8 mark.
|
We arrived a bit earlier than normal for our review so
we opted for the English breakfast. You get six items for
£5.50. We were not impressed! First, we gave the scrambled
eggs a miss because they were a solid mass with a definite
blue tinge to it. Apparently this is caused by the scrambled
eggs being left on the counter heater too long.
Food quality is below average and does not represent good
value. |
|
The other problem with the food is that it was lukewarm
making the whole eating experience rather unpleasant. The
cafe decor is pleasant and modern but not much thought has
been given to the layout of the tables and chairs. The
carpets are marked an stained and in need of a good
vacuuming. |
Dobbies at Gailey have their own club card scheme (the Dobbies Group scheme) with various benefits for their members.
Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden
centres can be found by

If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a
purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and
rewards.
