This is a small plants nursery where the owners live next door. Although on the small side this nursery manages to cram in lots of plants, trees, pots tubs and even their own florists.
Many of the plants are grown on site and the quality is tip top because of this. One of their major claims is that their plants are significantly cheaper compared to larger garden centres so we decided to test this out. When we compared prices for clematis, apple trees and gooseberry bushes from Bunkers Hill garden centre against similar plants from Wyevale Garden Centres it was clear that Bunkers Hill plants were significantly cheaper. It is difficult to make absolute comparisons because, for instance, different garden centres offer different hardy shrub guarantees and plant quality is a subjective matter.
The area is arranged in nursery style and is a very pleasant place to browse for common and not so common plants. As well as plants they sell an attractive range of iron furniture, bird feed and a small range of gifts.
This garden centre has its own reward scheme. One stamp is given for every £5 spent, one free plant (from a limited selection) for every three stamps collected. Click here for more details of their reward scheme and a comparison with other garden centres.
We haven't tried the cafe but it's clear that prices here are very cheap as well. Coffees and teas are only £1 and cakes are £2.
