The family that owns Allington Nursery have been in the horticultural trade from 1922 over several generations. They moved into their current site in 1986 and have developed considerably over the years. This is a true plants nursery and they grow on site many of the plants they sell. They grow over a quarter of a million plants each year and not only do they sell to the public but they also sell to other garden centres.
Growing your own plants has many benefits, one being they can control the quality. Another key benefit is that the costs can be kept down and that's why prices are lower at Allington Nursery compared to most garden centres.
The plants are healthy and they are attractively displayed in their plant sales area. They carry a very wide range of bedding plants, basket, shrubs, roses, tree and herbaceous plants, you will be spoilt for choice. They also specialise in exotic plants.
As well as plants they also stock all the other gardening essentials you would expect of a large garden centre. Greenhouses, purpose built sheds, aquatics, garden and patio furniture and lots more. One particular non-gardening area they stock is a huge range of fireworks. They even mention on their site that you could set off a few fireworks to celebrate a divorce!
We were fascinated by their range of barbecue houses. These include double-glazing, patio doors, sleeping beds and of course a posh barbecue with a flue to let the smoke out safely.
They currently have no club / reward membership scheme at this garden centre. Click here if you want to see a comparison of garden garden centres which do have reward / discount cards.
If you fancy some food or a drink then their cafe serves main meals snacks, breakfasts, drinks and cakes. It's an attractively laid out dedicated area with good-looking wooden tables and chairs.
