They claim to hand water each plant in preference to using automatic irrigation systems! The choice of plants is good including seasonal bedding, conifers, shrubs roses and perennials. They specialise in ornamental and fruit trees with a very good choice of both.
The area has reasonably wide paths and is wheelchair user friendly although the paths are of gravel. The interior sales area is medium sized and mostly given over to gardening goods. However they also sell cards, gifts and a good range of houseplants. Saddles and other horse accessories are another area Rowans specialise in.
At Christmas they stock a full range of real and synthetic Christmas trees plus all the normal seasonal decorations.
FOOD TYPE: Cafe style food, snack meals, snacks, drinks and cakes. A small range of daily specials. Excellent breakfasts served up to Midday. Gluten free options are available.
FOOD QUALITY:
Above average for a cafe of
this size.
DECOR:
Country style, real wooden
furnishings. Attractive and cosy cafe overall.
OUTDOOR SEATING:
A large outdoor seating area
with real wooden furniture. A view that is beautiful and very peaceful. On a warm day there are few
cafes which have such a relaxing outdoor seating area, highly recommended.

SERVICE:
The staff at this cafe really
care about service! Really! Compare that to the often disinterested service at the larger garden
centres and you will be impressed.
VALUE FOR MONEY:
Above average. A filled
omelette for £3.50 and paninis from £4.50 are just two examples.
DOG FRIENDLY: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Canine meals served for £3.50.

PLANT SELECTION:
A good choice for the
size of the area. Some of the shrubs are grown on site in their own plants nursery. Healthy looking
plants and advice is freely available.
LAYOUT:
Attractively laid out and
shrubs are in alphabetical order with good signs. There is a small demonstration kitchen garden
showing vegetables and cottage garden plants being grown. The "planting / sowing" date of each of
the vegetables is shown, useful for comparison!

VALUE FOR MONEY:
Above average.
LAYOUT:
Uninspiring but clean and
functional
