There are lots of plants for sale at Horningsea Garden centre, they are well displayed and looked in very good condition.
Inside, the choice of gardening items for sale is good with a
full range of fertilisers, pesticides, tools etc. There is also
a large pet shop which stocks pet foods, accessories and a
larger than normal choice of small pets. Notcutts offer a three
week guarantee on live pets - if the don't suit you within this
time take them back for a full refund.
As far as cleanliness in the cafe goes we saw no problems, but then again we didn't go into the cooking area. What is of significant concern is that South Cambridgeshire District Council have awarded this cafe only one out of five stars (see here). That is the lowest hygiene rating for a garden centre which we have ever encountered. The inspection was carried out on 15 February 2012.
After further investigation we noted that the previous inspection of the cafe on 6 September 2010 was rated as three out of five stars. Notcutts were not happy with three stars and they responded to the rating with the following statement "A complete deep clean of the premises has now been undertaken and confirmed as a high standards by the environmental health." (see here). It is therefore surprising that Notcutts have not commented after the one star rating in 2012.
Give the above two paragraphs, we, personally, would not choose to eat at this cafe on hygiene reasons.
