Brambridge Garden Centre has a long history which is traced back to Brambridge House, the other side of the road. In times gone by the garden centre was a walled kitchen garden which was used to produce fruit and vegetables for the owners of the mansion.
Brambridge is clearly doing well because in 2013 it was placed as 77th (up from 99th in 2011) garden centre in the UK with a turnover of £4.81 million.. So this is not one of the largest garden centres but it is a fair size. The plant display area has a large open greenhouse covered area and houses seasonal plants. The remainder of the area is uncovered and very well designed. There are several large displays and the whole area looks very attractive.
The paths are reasonably wide, flat and easy to navigate. The signs showing where plant groups can be found are on the small size but they are present and of some help. The plants themselves are top quality. The plants don't appear to be grown on site.
The interior sales area is modern and was the subject of significant redesign in 2003. It's all aimed at attracting well-heeled customers who have plenty of money to spend. They stock all the normal gardening goods at slightly higher than normal prices. As befits a large garden centre nowadays they also stock cards, gifts, garden furniture, clothing etc. It's a pleasant place for even the non-gardener to browse and shop.
Brambridge Garden Centre have their own club card scheme (the Blue Diamond Group scheme) with various benefits for their members. Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden centres can be found by clicking here. If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and rewards.
The Country House Restaurant at Brambridge Garden Centre follows the theme of being up-market but the food is good and well presented. The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating area and both are decorated to a high standard with the outdoor seating have very pleasant views.
On the same site as the garden centre is the Bankside Miniature Railway with rides for adults and kids. It is open 10.30 to 5.00 from Easter to until the end of October.

The quality and range of plants is excellent and the presentation and accessibility is also excellent. The outside area was equally good. We used the restaurant facility and the staff were all well trained being very polite and helpful. The meal was above average for garden centres. We selected a table outside. Whilst there we were treated to a raptor show.....various owls, a kestrel and a falcon all with their friendly handlers who answered our questions and let children stroke the birds. We visited because it had just started raining..again, and were surprised and pleased to find a centre so professionally run....well done. You deserve your five star rating! |
