The David Austin Rose Garden is not really a garden centre but they do stock a huge range of their roses, they have many of them growing in their gardens, they do provide two cafes and have a decent gift shop.

DOG FRIENDLY? Yes the David Austin Rose Garden is dog friendly. It's not clear what their policy is concerning dogs in the cafe but the cafe does have an outdoor seating area.

The David Austin Rose Garden is several rose gardens all rolled into one. For the absolute best display of roses visit in June but any time after that up to September is well worth a visit.

Long Garden roses

Most of the roses in the gardens are David Austin rose varieties which does rather restrict the selection but that is not surprising. All the roses are labeled so if you see one you fancy, make a note of the name.

As well as the display gardens, which are hugely impressive, they have a large sales area for the roses. Don't expect a bargain though, they all seem to be priced at £30, the same price as at your local garden centre.

The condition of the roses in the gardens and the sales area are as good as it gets.

We enjoyed wandering around the gardens hugely. One little nugget of information we gathered was which variety of  rose attracted the most bees. When we visited in mid June there was one overwhelming variety which won this accolade and by a huge margin.

This rose plant was literally humming with bee activity to such an extent that it was not clear to us at first what was making such a large hum. The species rose R. Moyesii EOS was the clear winner.

CAFE FOOD HYGEINE RATING

The cafe was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of five out of five by Shropshire in March 2022. Click here for full details.

There were two cafes at the David Austin Rose Garden and between them they offered a choice of snack meals, cakes and main meals. Both offered good quality food at very reasonable prices.
