REVIEW RESULTS - BROOKFIELDS GARDEN CENTRE

Brookfields is an independent garden centre just north of Nottingham. It started life around thirty years ago as a small nursery and has now grown into one of the top independent garden centres in Nottinghamshire.

THE OUTSIDE AREA
Lots of effort and thought has clearly been devoted to the outside plants area. Immediately outside the garden centre building is a large outside covered area which is fully paved. Further on is the main outside plants area which is not covered. This is mainly solid feeling gravel with a circular, paved main path. The whole area is maintained free from debris and general clutter.

The plant beds have been arranged pleasantly with lots of features, extremely large plant pots are the main theme. This is certainly an attractively laid area for browsing. At one end of the plants area is a good selection of stoneware for the garden. Well displayed water features can be found in this area and also in the aquatics centre. Also very interesting was the display of garden buildings.

Signs around the outdoor area large, clear and descriptive.

THE PLANTS
The area devoted to plants equates to a medium to large garden centre and they stock a good range of plants. They are in good condition, well-watered and free from weeds. A two year hardy plant guarantee is clearly advertised in the main plants area.

No particular specialist areas is apparent although there is a good range of hedging plants, architectural and large potted plants.

We took note of some prices of plants and garden accessories for comparison purposes. Roses started at an excellent £6.99, clematis at a very reasonable £7.99, Westland 60 litre bag  of compost is £5.99 or three for a very low £10. Westland 1.5kg bone meal is £4.99, a 1kg bag of Miracle Gro is £4.99, Tomorite is an expensive £5.99, economy spade / fork is a good £12.99 with a stainless steel ones at £22.99.

Brookfields have their own club card scheme with various benefits for their members. Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden centres can be found by clicking here. If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and rewards.

INSIDE BROOKFIELDS GARDEN CENTRE
The interior sales area is large in comparison to the plants area. On display is a very large choice of garden and conservatory furniture, attractively set out. All the normal non-gardening items are here, cards, gifts, clothes, barbecues, kitchen ware, bird feeds and tables,

The layout is very similar to other large garden centres but somehow at Brookfields Garden Centre they have managed it better than most. The paths are wide and carpeted, the whole area gives the impression of being spacious and free from clutter.

House plants have not been forgotten, there is an extensive selection of attractively laid out varieties at good prices. The Food hall is also good with a large range of deli items, jams and other specialist items. The kids toys department was unusually large for a garden centre.

DISABLED ACCESS
This is good all round with free wheelchairs available.

OTHER STUFF
Car park - Large enough for peak times, next to the main entrance and on solid well-draining ground.
Pet Centre - We saw none although there were some pet feeds.
Aquatics - Yes, with a good stock of freshwater and tropical fish plus lots of feeds and other accessories.
Water Features - Yes, a good range.
Sheds and Greenhouses - Yes and very well displayed.
Toilets - Ladies, gents, baby changing and disabled facilities. All in good condition.

CONCLUSION
We liked this garden centre with its nicely laid out plants area and huge indoor area. Plant and gardening goods are well priced.
