This independent review of Bridgnorth Garden Centre was written by David Marks and was last updated in June 2025.
This is an in depth review by a real human as a result of visiting this garden centre, no Artificial Intelligence is involved!
We reviewed the inside and plant sales areas, took pictures (see lower down this article) and checked out the cafe. The cafe check involved ordering and tasting the food and reporting our findings for you to judge.
Read further down this page for an in depth and independent review of Bridgnorth Garden Centre. In summary though this garden centre has expanded significantly in the last couple of years and has everything you would expect of a large garden centre.
The cafe now serves quality food at very reasonable prices. The system of ordering and delivering food to your table has also been updated resulting in good service.

IS BRIDGNORTH GARDEN CENTRE DOG FRIENDLY? Yes, Bridgnorth Garden Centre is dog friendly, so feel free to bring your dog along. They are permitted all around the garden centre and the cafe has a special area for those with dogs.
SIZE: This is a large garden centre cafe with, at a rough guess, fifty tables.

FOOD TYPE: The cafe at Bridgnorth Garden Centre (called the Gardeners Retreat) serves a full range of drinks, snacks, light meals, breakfasts as well as main meals. These include a decent range of vegetarian and gluten free choices which are clearly marked on the menus.

Breakfasts are served from 9.00 to 11.00. We tried the Loaded Breakfast Omelette and, at 1475 Kcal it is not for the diet conscious but definitely delicious and well presented.
Main meals are served from 11.30 onwards and offer typical garden centre fare.

Children have their own menu at the Bridgnorth Garden Centre cafe and the choice is larger than we expected.

FOOD QUALITY: From the food we were served the quality was good. The food was well presented and the plates were warm.
DECOR: The tables and chairs are basic plastic and were clean. Our only complaint would be that the carpet was marked in several places and well beyond its sell-by date.
OUTDOOR SEATING: The cafe has an attractive outdoor seating area.
SERVICE: The queue to order food was about 15 minutes which was acceptable however on weekends and holidays we guess the wait would be longer. Having ordered your food it is delivered to your table. This took about 5 minutes for the relatively simple scones. Hot food took about 10 minutes to be served at our table.

To order food you will need to know your table number and sometimes the table you have chosen will be taken by others when you are queuing for your food. Conveniently, the cafe provide a "table reserved" notice which you can display on your chosen table. See below.

VALUE FOR MONEY: Prices are about average for this type of garden centre. Combined with food quality and general atmosphere we rate the value for money to be good.

Plants Area at Bridgnorth Garden Centre
SIZE OF PLANTS AREA: The plants area is large by any standard.
PLANT SELECTION: Shrubs, small trees, vegetables, herbaceous plants and many others are in abundance at this garden centre. You are very likely to find the plants you want at Bridgnorth Garden Centre. Hardy plants come with a one year guarantee. All the plants we looked at were in good condition.
LAYOUT: The layout is not particularly inspiring, it is best described as functional. All the paths are solid, level and wide, they are well maintained and clean. There are more than enough signs to indicate where plant groups can be located. May of the plant groups, shrubs for instance, are arranged in alphabetic order.
One stand-out feature of Bridgnorth Garden Centre is that well over half the 'outside' plants area is under cover. All the main paths (plus many other areas) are protected from rain which makes this a great garden centre for visiting when the weather is wet.

Excellent signage at Bridgnorth Garden Centre
VALUE FOR MONEY: The plants are about average prices. For example clematis start at £18 and roses start at £15.
SIZE: Surprisingly large, one of the largest in the British Garden Centre chain of garden centres. It sells everything you would expect from a large garden centre. One of the stores is selling Pavers shoes and I have never seen so many pairs of shoes on display in one place - I guess about 1,000 shoes on sale!

Pavers shoes at Bridgnorth Garden Centre
Cards, gifts, homeware, a large selection of indoor and outdoor furniture, clothes of all types, barbecues - the list goes on, it's all there at Bridgnorth Garden Centre.
An excellent, full sized Maidenhead Aquatics store is also on site, and even if you are not particularly interested in buying fish, it's fascinating to wander around the displays.
LAYOUT: The layout is pleasant. Rather than one massive area the interior sales area is divided up into discreet areas. One irritant for me is that as well as constant background music, there are several TV screens and speakers blaring out whatever it is they are advertising.
Paths are wide and solid and eminently suitable for wheel chair users.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Average value for money.
ACCESS: Disabled access is very good all round. The large car park is near the entrance.
