Garden Centre Sales for May Down 2.7% |

Comparing the 2012 figures to the same period in 2011 the drop is even more dramatic, 10% down. The clear consensus is that the cause is the recent bad weather especially over the Bank Holidays when garden centres traditionally do much of their business. The biggest declines so far this year are in outdoor plants with sales down a massive 19%, furniture and barbecues saw sales fall by a dramatic 17%. Whilst outdoor plants sales are unlikely to recover, it's now too late in the season for that, it is possible that a solid period of good weather may see barbecue and garden furniture sales recover. The biggest winner of all so far this year has been in cafes and restaurants which have seen a 5.6% increase in sales.
