Little Heath Garden Centre in Bromsgrove ---- update name and hyperlink
Worcester Garden Centre (Blue Diamond) in Worcester
David's Nurseries in Worcester.
SIZE: Large, three separate areas
FOOD TYPE: Typical garden centre cafe food. Everything including breakfasts (9.00 to 11.00), coffees / teas, cakes, snacks and main meals.
FOOD QUALITY: This cafe has aspirations to providing high quality meals but the reality is that the food quality is only just mediocre. We have eaten here many times and that has proven the case almost always. Our latest meal was a "Healthy Breakfast". The bacon was tough, the baked beans fine, the tomato and mushroom tasteless, the toast OK.
DECOR: Excellent, they have equipped this cafe very well. The surroundings are modern and pleasant, the tables and chairs are excellent. Everything is clean.
OUTDOOR SEATING: Yes although we forgot to look at it!
SERVICE: Our last visit for breakfast at around 10.00 had only minimal queuing. But we know from experience that at more peak times the wait at the entrance and service in general can ran range from slow to downright exasperating.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Not good value for money. True, the general decor is well above average but the food quality does not warrant the high prices. For example, the breakfast we chose, which came second to the full breakfast, cost £10.29. See below for a picture of what we were served at that price. That's very pricey!
Healthy Breakfast at Webbs of Wychbold
To back up the claim that the food at Webbs is expensive for what is delivered, almost exactly the same "Healthy Breakfast" as served at Webbs for £10.29 is available at nearby Worcester Garden Centre (Blue Diamond Group) for a much lower £8.95, and the Worcester Garden Centre includes an additional Hash Brown and a choice of how the egg is cooked (fried, poached or scrambled)!
We know this because the day after we had our breakfast at Webbs, we then had our breakfast at Worcester Garden Centre. As noted above, not only was Worcester Garden Centre cheaper but the quality, in our opinion, was better.
SIZE OF PLANTS AREA: Very large
PLANT SELECTION: We examined the plants for sale at Webbs of Wychbold and found them to be in tip top condition, well watered, well pruned and clear of weeds.
Prices were variable, but in general prices are slightly higher than average. For example, the cheapest rose we could find for sale was £12.99.
The range of plants was large even for a garden centre of this size so you will find not only the plants you want but a selection of alternatives. Particularly impressive was the large range of ornamental trees for sale at Webbs and a good selection of fruit trees.
If shade is a problem in your garden then Webbs of Wychbold have the solution. A special area is set aside for shade loving plants, which is protected from harsh sunlight. Seasonal plants are well represented in their own covered area.
Shade loving plants at Webbs of Wychbold
To wrap it all up, Webbs show great confidence in their plants by offering a five year guarantee on all their hardy plants.
LAYOUT: The outdoor area is well laid out and has just enough variety in the layout to stop it being boring. This is a large area and the paths are wide and well spread out, certainly wide enough for wheelchairs to access all areas. The paths were clear with no hosepipes or other obstacles making access easy.
Covering over the area to protect from rain has been done well. There is about 20% completely covered but in addition the pathways have been covered as well. Aside from areas which are completely covered this combination gives the best protection from rain.
There are plenty of meaningful signs around the outside area at Webbs, large enough to be clearly seen and help you locate the various plant groups. The major grouping of shrubs was arranged in alphabetic order. Plenty of staff were in the area to help answer questions and they did this very knowledgeably.

VALUE FOR MONEY: Slightly higher prices than average.
SIZE: The main interior sales area is huge and this allows them to stock a vast amount of non-gardening goods as well as gardening accessories.
LAYOUT: For the gardener everything is here under one roof albeit at rather inflated prices. Pesticides, tools, garden tools, composts and more. Webbs also have a larger than normal section devoted to solar lighting for the garden.
For the non-gardening shopper there are shoes, clothes, gifts, books, indoor and outdoor furniture, children's toys, Toy Box store, Hobbycraft store, Food Hall to name a few. Webbs of Wychbold is really a small department store and a shopping destination in its own right.
This is not the store to visit though if you are looking for a bargain, it's much more about convenience and shopping in a pleasant environment. For those shoppers who run short of cash there is a cash withdrawal machine near the entrance.
Furniture at Webbs of Wychbold
For the bird lover Webbs of Wychbold is the destination. A part of the store is devoted to bird foods of every type and bird feeders. If you can't find it here you are unlikely to find it anywhere! Bird food is definitely an up and coming niche market and Webbs are taking full advantage of it.
Houseplants are well displayed and there are lots of them. Prices tended to slightly higher compared to other garden centres. The quality of the plants was good.
Webbs have their own club card scheme with various benefits for their members. Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden centres can be found by clicking here. If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and rewards.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Slightly higher prices than average.
ACCESS: Paths, both inside and outside, are level, flat surfaced and more than wide enough.
FACILITIES:: Often overlooked by visitors to Webbs are the picnic area and the Riverside Walk display gardens. Both are free.
The gardens run alongside a stream and it takes a very pleasant 20 minutes or so to walk around them. They provide year round interest and are especially interesting in spring and autumn. Their purpose is to provide inspiration and they certainly achieve that.
The nearby picnic area is grassed with seven or eight large tables and bench seating. What is unusual is the collection of popup transparent bubble rooms. They have a zip door and include a large table in each and chairs. A great way to have a picnic if the weather is not so good.

Went to buy garden furniture worth a few thousand pounds. Guy called Andy was extremely rude, did not even look at me when I asked about the items but carried on with what he was doing. Two other people with me could not believe his rudeness. Another member of staff then informed me the item I wanted only came with the coffee table which was on display but I would automatically get £100 off the price for a display item. I then asked if they do price match and gave the guy the number of the shop with the item at a lower price. He came back and said they could do that but then gave me a higher price. He said they would not price match and give me a discount on the table even though the price match was against a full brand new set. I pointed out I was not buying a £10 pot plant but was potentially thinking of spending over three thousand pounds on garden furniture. Shocking service and appalling way to treat a good customer. I have now spent my cash elsewhere and got much better prices and was shown the courtesy which was sorely missing at Webbs. |

There seems to be nothing they dont sell at Webbs! We've just come back from a visit and this time we realised they are selling camping stuff. It all makes for a good afternoon out but weekends are very crowded. The cafe service is very poor and the food is only just about average. |

Atrocious service in the cafe and my scone was only half cooked through. When I took it back they didn't even bat an eyelid, the cafe staff just don't care. They just replaced the scone without looking at the half cooked one. How can they improve if they don't even look at returned food. |

Webbs is a great afternoon out for us. The plants are good and there are lots of them but mostly we buy from small nurseries because the prices at Webbs are high. Inside the shop it's like a shopping mall and the fish department is bit like visiting a zoo but for free. If the weather is OK we always go for the walk along the small river, it's very well designed and that wisteria arch is a real treat when it flowers. At Christmas it's a kids paradise for an hour or two but the Santa visit is too expensive for us. |

I went to webbs to get the wooden arch in tan, but they only had green in stock, I then asked a member of staff if they could see if they had one, a staff member called Callum was very efficient and ordered me the one I wanted, two days later webbs rang me to tell me the arch was in. The service they offer is brilliant, and the staff go out of their way to be helpfully. |

Our two children were very impressed by the christmas stuff and decorations. The Santa is also very good, recommended for families with young children. |
