St John's started out in business in 1958 as a small nursery growing their own plants and vegetables for sale. The business was started and is still run by the Oliver family. Expansion was quick including a very large greenhouse in 1960.
At all times of the year they stock a good range of gifts, books, cards, deli food items, barbecues, garden furniture etc. This is a medium to largish garden centre and at Christmas they have a Santa's grotto plus lots of trees, lights and Christmas decorations.
There are indoor and outdoor seating areas at St John's cafe with the indoor seating overlooking Jungleland with all the exotic plants. The cafe was given the top 5 star rating by the Food Standards Agency inspection in November 2010.
