St Bridget Nurseries in Old Rydon Lane in Exeter have a fascinating history with four generations being involved from 1925 until the present day. Although a modern garden centre, they still grow the vast majority of their plants at their two Exeter Nurseries. This not only includes the bedding plants but also the shrubs, roses, fruit and ornamental trees.
The plants are covered by a 12 month hardy plant guarantee which you are very unlikely to need because all the plants look very healthy and in tip top condition. They sell the full range of seasonal bedding plants and hanging baskets of course and the display in Spring and early summer is magnificent.
The choice of roses is excellent and in July they offer free tours around their rose fields. This allows you to compare a wide selection of varieties and they also explain how they grow their own roses. Ornamental and fruit trees are featured very well as are climbers, ferns, heathers and herbaceous perennials.
The inside sales area has a good choice of gardening goods including tools, seeds, composts, pesticides - all the average gardener needs. A large area is devoted to garden furniture and they also have a sections for gifts, cards, bird foods and accessories, local deli items and barbecues.
The Plantsman Cafe at St Bridgets Nurseries serves coffees, teas, cakes, cream teas and light meals. They also serve an excellent cooked breakfast which includes toast and a choice of tea or coffee. The cafe has a food hygiene rating of four out of five, click here for the full report.
