CAFE REVIEW

DECOR AND SEATING
The Rendezvous Cafe at Squires Milford Garden Centre is a dedicated area which has a very light and airy atmosphere. Large windows and a see through ceiling let in plenty of light making it a pleasant place for a meal or snack. The main cafe area looks out onto the garden centre and there is also a large outdoor seating area.

The tables and chairs are wooden and arranged well. The floor is partially carpeted with the remainder being floor tiles. The area is kept clean and tidy with dishes being promptly removed form tables.

QUALITY OF FOOD
First we noted that much of the main kitchen preparation area was open to public view, always a good sign! The food we tasted was good and well presented - portions were definitely on the large size. One of our meals was a rarerbit and rather than simply serve cheese on toast, the chef had actually made a good attempt at a real rarebit recipe - well done. Overall the food quality was higher than normal garden centre cafe food.

SERVICE
Speed of service is not as quick as it could be. On our visit there were only two people in front of us but we still waited for ten minutes until we could get seated. It seemed that the system in use was not as good as some other cafes, with the service of hot food to the tables causing a problem. In some cases the hot food was coming out of the kitchen before diners were seated which confused the waitress.

Having said that the staff were very pleasant and made the best job they could of a flawed system.

THE PRICES
There were five main meals on offer at £7 to £9, three of which appeared to be vegetarian. The rarebit (a good two slices) cost £4.95. Other prices included salads £7 to £8, omelettes £4 to £5, breakfast type food with a full English at £5.95, toasties £4 to £5, freshly made sandwiches around £4, jacket potatoes £4 to £6 depending on filling and several other snack type meals.

The coffees and teas tasted good and the homemade cakes not only tasted delicious but also looked very impressive.

CONCLUSION
Squires Milford Garden Centre cafe is nicely decorated and designed. The food is good quality and the prices very reasonable. The service system needs a review but overall we think this cafe offers good value for money and good food.
