Rowena Garden Centre has retained the name given to it by the original owner Sam Dimmock when he began the business in 1944 selling vegetables and flowers to local residents. At that time it was called Rowena Nurseries, being named after his mother.
This is a medium to large sized garden centre which stocks a good range of healthy plants. The interior sales area houses lots of useful gardening accessories, sufficient for almost all gardeners. Gifts and cards are also stocked plus a bird care section. No garden centre of this size would be complete without stocking barbecues, garden and conservatory furniture and the Rowena Garden Centre does not disappoint.
In store shops include the clothing retailer Cotton Traders and Edinburgh Woollen Mill. There is a good display of houseplants with floristry items and services. Books, games and toys are sold courtesy of The Works.
The Conservatory Restaurant serves breakfasts (up to 11.30), main meals, snack meals and good range of cakes. The food is cooked on site rather than being bought in so the quality is high and consistent. The restaurant has been awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 4 (out of 5) in May 2011 and classified as Good.
If you want to extend your plant shopping choices then also visit the very nearby Brooklea Nursery, more details can be found here.
