REVIEW RESULTS - REDFIELDS GARDEN CENTRE

THE OUTSIDE AREA
The outside plants area is divided into two, the first being a large covered area to provide good protection on rainy days.

The uncovered area is well designed and provides a very pleasant shopping experience with lots of interest. The paths are wide, flat and clutter free and the design avoids all those long, boring rows of many other garden centres. The designers have kept the paths short and at angles to each other. The area is surrounded by tall trees.

Some areas had plants in the soil with the plants for sale surrounding them. Further evidence of the thought which has gone into this garden centre. Access all round was good although there were a few gravel paths which might provide problems for wheelchair users but there was always an alternate hard-surface way around. There were some signs to indicate where specific plant types can be found but a few more would be helpful.

THE PLANTS
The choice of plants was good at Redfields Garden centre, everything you would expect from a large outlet like this. All hardy plants come with a five year guarantee and the condition of the plants was good. The speciality was probably in evergreens and topiary plants where the selection was particularly large.

We noted the prices of some common items and they were about average for this area. Potentillas started at £9.99, clematis from £8.99, and roses also from £8.99 (buy two for £15). Other gardening goods included a 70 litre bag of Levingtons multi-purpose was £4.99 or 3 for £12, Yeoman economy spade £12.99, stainless steel spade £26.99. Finally, Miracle Gro 1 litre was £4.99 and a 1 litre pot of Tomorite was £3.99.

INSIDE REDFIELDS GARDEN CENTRE
The inside area was open plan with no separation between areas other than the goods for sale. They sell cards, gifts, lots of garden and interior furniture, barbecues, clothes - all the goods you would expect from a garden centre of this size. The choice of houseplants was good and they were pleasantly displayed. The roof was the standard exposed metal beam arrangement but it was better than most because it was high and painted white.

Redfields Garden Centre have their own club card scheme (the Blue Diamond Group scheme) with various benefits for their members. Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden centres can be found by clicking here. If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and rewards.

DISABLED ACCESS
Disabled access was generally good inside and outside with only a few areas difficult to access.

OTHER STUFF
Car park - Large enough, on hard standing and near the entrance.
Pet Centre - A limited range of pet foods and accessories
Aquatics - We did not see any aquatics centre.
Water Features - There was a good choice of water features and they were well displayed.
Sheds and Greenhouses - A small selection of greenhouses and sheds was available for sale.`
Toilets - The toilets wer functional and clean

CONCLUSION
Good quality plants, well displayed and at reasonable prices. The interior is a less inspiring but will satisfy the needs of most gardeners and shoppers for other goods.

Three of us visited Redfields this week and had a meal there. The meal was chicken and King Prawn salad at a cost of £10.95each. These were miserly portions with very little chicken, prawns or croutons. The meal could only rate as a 'starter' and should be charged accordingly. The service was also lacking - We had to wait over 30 minutes for the meals. We will not visit Redfields again.
