CAFE REVIEW FOR REDFIELDS GARDEN CENTRE
CAFE DECOR AND SEATING
The cafe is a purpose built, dedicated area which has indoor and
outdoor seating. The inside are was pleasantly laid out with real
wood tables and chairs. The are was kept clean, net and tidy. One
end of it had a large window which gave the cafe an airy feeling,
The outdoor area was rather garishly furnished with metal table and
chairs but that is a matter of taste. Again the area was clean and
tidy. The disadvantage of the outdoor seating are was that it looked
directly onto the car park which was not the best of views.
RANGE OF FOOD
There was a good selection of food available. Coffees, teas, cakes,
snack meals and main meals. There was also a children's menu and for
early birds they serve a range of breakfasts.
FOOD QUALITY
We started our sampling of the food with a pastry savoury, some
chips and a baked potato. Unfortunately that's as far as our
sampling went. In our experience if a cafe can't get the snack type
meals correct then they won't succeed with the main meals.
The chips were rated as the worst we had ever had in a cafe, soggy,
dry and unpleasantly leathery skinned. The pastry savoury fared a
little better, but it was far too stodgy for this type of puff
pastry dish and a little short on filling.
The baked potato was truly appalling! The tuna topping was OK but
the potato itself had been overcooked to such a degree that all
texture and flavour had disappeared long ago. The outside of the
flesh of the potato had an unappetising grey look to it and the
inside had turned to mush.
SERVICE
Service of almost all hot meals, including our baked potato and
savoury, is to your table by pleasant staff. There was little
queuing even though we visited at a very peak time.
PRICES
Example prices are £1.85 for a regular coffee, single pot of tea is
£1.40, jacket potatoes around £4.50 to £5, portion of chips £1.50,
main meals £9 or so, soup £3.25, breakfasts from £4 to £6.20.
Overall the prices are average for this type of cafe.
CONCLUSION
Unless you are here only for a tea / coffee, the quality of the food
we tasted was vey bad and over rode any of the good points for this
cafe.
