for Google map showing location of the Plant and Harvest Garden Centre. THIS GARDEN CENTRE WENT INTO ADMINISTRATION IN APRIL 2012. THE NEW OWNERS HAVE RENAMED THE GARDEN CENTRE AND ALSO CHANGED THE CAFE AND GARDEN CENTRE. WE WILL REVISIT THIS SITE IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND GIVE AN UPDATED REVIEW. At the far end of the garden centre they have a bumble bee sanctuary with plants and trees which have been selected especially for bees. To one side is a children's play area. This is a small to medium sized garden centre and plant selection is therefore restricted. Also, several of the plant bays were empty when we visited in April further restricting the choice of plants. We can't really recommend the Plant and Harvest Garden Centre if you are looking for particular plants. Even some common plants may not be available here. Plant quality was variable, many plants were in good condition but some were struggling to look their best. Prices were also on the high side. Inside they stock a small range of gardening goods. Similar to the plants, you may find that some gardening goods you would expect to find are not here. A large area of the internal sales space is devoted to a delicatessen. It stocks a large range of pies, cheeses, local beers, biscuits and lots more.
CAFE AT PLANT AND HARVEST GARDEN CENTRE Service is a bit chaotic, we had a ten minute wait to place our order. We then had another twenty eight minute wait for it to be delivered to our table. That length of wait (for a toasted sandwich and a baguette) is a major drawback for a garden centre cafe. The waiter did apologise of his own accord when he bought us the food. Prices are also a bit chaotic, some being cheap and some being expensive. The quality of the food appears to have deteriorated compared to our visit a few years ago. The baguette filling was rather lacking and the toasted Welsh rarebit (at over £5) was served by itself with no salad or other adornments. I am a Welsh rarebit aficionado having cooked many myself and sampling them in many cafes. The one served in the Plant and Harvest cafe definitely has too much Worcestershire Sauce giving it a bitter taste.
