The plants area has been laid out in attractive manner with several interesting displays to keep customers interested. A good portion of it is under cover making shopping for many of the plants possible even on rainy days. The paths are wide, level and clutter free, wheelchair access is very good all round.
The inside sales area is very large and makes for a good few hours shopping time, not necessarily all to do with gardening! From PampurredPets which stocks a very good selection of pet feeds and accessories, Interflora for all you cut flower needs. They also stock gifts, cards, garden and indoor furniture, a deli store, bird care feeds and equipment, a comprehensive range of gardening accessories and lots, lots more.
Window Mart have a conservatory sales area at this garden centre. When we checked them out we visited their website and heard what must surely be the most appalling and tacky audio advert of all time which blares out whenever the home page is visited. Truly without any taste whatsoever and not in the least reassuring! A name we will remember for a long time for all the wrong reasons.
Other sales areas include Craghoppers selling clothes, Fineline Traditional Joinery and Best Cabins who manufacture and sell log cabins.
Old Barn Nursery Garden Centre have their own club card scheme (Wyevale Garden Centres scheme) with various benefits for their members. Details of the club and a comparison with the clubs of other garden centres can be found by clicking here. If you are thinking of visiting this garden centre to make a purchase it may well be worth taking a look at their discounts and rewards.
A few times a year there are guided tours of the nursery which last around an hour. These are free and well worth attending. Click here for details of the tour which we went on in May.
We sampled a Caesar Salad (click picture above to enlarge) and a baked potato. The salad was excellent and exactly what we expected. Lots of chicken, croutons, different salad leaves and a reasonably authentic dressing - an excellent attempt at a Caesar Salad. The baked potato was hot, well-cooked and had lots of filling. Overall the food we tasted was good quality, reasonably priced and served promptly and pleasantly.
As well as the a very attractive indoor seating area there is also a courtyard shared between the two cafes. This is used as an outdoor seating area and is a very pleasant open space to enjoy the food and drinks on a warm day.
The cafe was awarded a five star rating for food hygiene by the Food Standards Agency in October 2011.
