EMAIL: stalbans@notcutts.co.uk
Notcutts at St Albans have a largish plants area which is well designed and interesting. The surface is solid in almost all areas and easy to get round. Plant quality is good with plants being well-watered and sold in good sized pots. Prices are average to slightly lower than average for the location.
The covered sales area stocks all the usual gardening items for the average gardener. They also stock garden furniture and all the non-gardening items found in other large garden centres. Their pet shop sells small live pets and a good choice of feeds and pet accessories.
We haven't tasted the food at this garden centre because when we checked they had only a 1 star (out of a maximum of 5) Food Hygiene Rating, classified as "major improvement necessary", by the Food Standards Agency. The rating was awarded in June 2012. This is an extremely low rating and almost never found in the cafe of a major garden centre chain. On this basis alone we wouldn't recommend eating here.
