Entrance to National Herb Centre If it's herbs you are looking for then the National Herb Centre is the place to visit. Without doubt they have the largest collection of herbs for sale in the UK. Click the picture below to enlarge it and you'll see rows and rows of herbs laid out just waiting to be bought!

The information signs for each variety are excellent, a huge amount of information.

As well as herbs they have a reasonable selection of shrubs, herbaceous plants and trees, both ornamental and fruit. It's well worth a visit but be aware the only cover against rain is in the shop.

We liked the display of herbs growing naturally in the large bed outside the shop. It gives you a good idea of how they will look in your garden. All the plants are well cared for and in good condition.

View of the sales area

They have arranged the herbs and other plants on two tiers and it's interesting to wander around the whole area. Don't miss the section devoted to poisonous plants! I'm not sure I would buy any of the poisonous plants but they definitely spark the interest of kids. They also have a section containing plants with edible leaves.

Most of the plants are grown on site, the adjoining nursery is clearly visible but unfortunately not open to the public. If they can grow the herbs in the cool and windy climate of south Warwickshire then you can rest assured they will most likely do well in your garden.

Although relatively small in garden centre terms there is an excellent cafe on site which sources many of its ingredients locally. They serve everything from a cup of tea to a full Sunday roast. We have sampled their food several times and can recommend it. The cafe interior is both modern and clean. They have been awarded the top 5 star rating for food hygiene by the Food Standards Agency in June 2012.

If the weather is good then the nature trail walk (fully signposted) is a treat with beautiful views over the local countryside. There is a shop near the entrance which sells seeds, a few garden accessories, unusual handicraft gifts and of course lots of books and information on growing herbs in the UK.
