Lydiate Barn Nurseries began life many years ago but in 2006 was abandoned by the owners. Over five years the greenhouses fell into disrepair and were beginning to be overtaken by weeds and brambles.
In 2011 the current owners, Phil and Elaine Curran, took over the derelict site and began the hard task of repairing the greenhouses, restocking with plants and clearing the site of weeds. They reopened the garden centre in April 2011 and began trading immediately.
Their plan for expansion are far reaching but at the moment they sell seasonal, bedding plants and hanging baskets with about 50% of them being grown on site. They also stock a wide range of landscaping materials soil, bark and compost.
The site is extensive and houses three national collections of tropical plants. It's well worth a wander round the display garden and many of the tropical plants are for public sale.
