Keydell Nursery is privately owned and has been on the current site for over 50 years. In 2011 they applied for planning permission to relocate to a much larger site. This application was narrowly turned down. However, in May 2012 they applied again and the application is currently under consideration. They also have plans to open an online shop so clearly Keydell Nurseries have big plans for expansion.
Many of the plants are grown on site in their own nursery so quality is high whilst prices are kept low. They stock a full range of plants of all types but also specialise in a few areas. Aquatic and bog plants are one example. The choice of these plants is on e of the largest in the area. Fruit and ornamental tress are another speciality with lots to choose from in a large number of sizes.
Well worth a look is the duck pond especially if you have children with you. There are several species of wild birds which have made the pond their home.
The interior sales area is particularly large given the overall size of this nursery. There is a fully fledged aquatics department selling a wide range of pond bases, fish feeds and accessories as well as pumps and filters. We didn't however see any live fish for sale. The choice of water features is extensive, very impressive.
A large area is given over to outside and conservatory garden furniture as well as normal household furniture. Barbecues aren't forgotten either with a range of Weber barbecues and Swiss Grill barbecues. The rest of the interior sales area is devoted to a range of goods including gifts, cards, bird care, books, pet care etc. plus, of course, a well chosen selection of garden tools, accessories, feeds and pesticides.
The Secret Garden Coffee Shop is light and airy with large widows overlooking the duck pond. they sell the full range of garden centre fare including hot and cold drinks, cakes, snack meals and a choice of main meal specials.
This nursery has a superb Christmas display and the range of Christmas items is one of the best in the area. Not only do they a large choice of decorations, seasonal gifts and Christmas trees but it is beautifully laid out with large moving centre displays that the children will love. An area is set aside for small animals, including donkeys, which the children can stroke and pet.
The Christmas displays start early at Keydell Nursery! Visit them in October and many of the displays are already in place. This continues right up until mid-January. Santa pays regular visits to the nursery and there are teas with Santa for the kids in the Coffee Shop. This does get booked up so make sure you visit the Coffee Shop to book up early.
