REVIEW RESULTS - GROSVENOR GARDEN CENTREThe Grosvenor Garden Centre was bought by the Blue Diamond Group in mid April 2012. See our news item here for more details.
THE OUTSIDE AREA The plants area is very large, very attractively laid out with lots of interest points and no boring straight line paths. The paths themselves are very wide and maintained very well. What was surprising was the lack of signs in such a large plants area. There were some signs but not nearly enough to easily navigate around the site. On the right hand side of the outdoor area is a massive display of tents, awnings and convertible / folding caravans. This is provided by Casey's Outdoor Leisure and all the products are laid out very well and fully accessible. Also near that area is a very large display of garden buildings and sheds, large and small. Water features feature prominently at the Grosvenor Garden Centre. There are lots to choose from and they are laid out in an attractive manner. Nearby there are numerous types of stones, grits and paving.
THE PLANTS There are so many plants at this garden centre that the average gardener will be spoilt for choice. The choice of roses is huge and they have set aside a special area for shade loving plants. This area is protected from the sun by a wooden slatted roof which is a very pleasant feature of the outdoor plants area, a far cry from the normal netting at most other garden centres. Conifers are also something of a speciality for this garden centre as are large container plants for instant effect. As far as prices go, roses start at £8.99, clematis at £11.99. A 1 litre bottle of Tomorite is £4.49. Potting compost was a rather expensive £5.99 for a 56 litre bag of Wexford. When we visited we found no economy forks / spades for sale, they were all up market ones around the £29.99 price.
INSIDE SALES AREA This is a very large area and they sell everything you would expect of a large modern garden centre. Gardening goods and non-gardening goods are comprehensively covered. Books, cards, bird feed, clothes, indoor / outdoor furniture, barbecues, kids toys, kitchen shop, food hall, shoes and lots more are all here, pleasantly laid out to make shopping a pleasure. They also have an impressive display of quality houseplants at slightly higher than normal prices, but they were in excellent condition. The number of varieties available was bewildering!
