We expected Blackdown to be a medium garden centre but in reality it
is definitely on the large size. The plants display area consists of
a covered area and an area open to the elements. The covered area is
thoughtfully laid out and very attractive.
The open are is fully paved in all areas with wide paths that are
easy to get round. We were particularly impressed with how clean and
free-from obstructions the whole area was.
The plants are in small bays with trellis backing which gives the
area a well-designed look. There were clear overhead signs to the
various areas of the garden centre and informative individual plant
signs. The shrubs were in alphabetic order.
Lots of plants were on display and it's very likely that you will
find the plants you want amongst them. If you are looking for fruit
trees then you will be spoilt for choice, the sheer number of trees
is impressive. Shade loving plants have their own display area which
is lightly covered to prevent too much sunlight reaching them. All
the plants looked healthy and in good condition.
OUR VIDEO OF THE PLANTS SALES AREA AT BLACKDOWN
GARDEN CENTRE
INTERIOR SALES AREA
This sales area is similar to many large garden centres and it
stocks a full choice of pesticides, plant foods, tools and other
gardening accessories. As far as other shopping goes they have a pet
centre which stocks feeds and accessories although no live pets.
Maidenhead Aquatics have a large outlet here and it is up to the
normal high standards. In other areas of the store there are books,
gifts, shoes, barbecues, garden furniture (hardwood, softwood and
metal), greetings cards and lots more.
PRICES
Prices are a little on the low side at Blackdown Garden
Centre. Example prices are 50 litres of Levingtons multi-purpose at
two for £10, 1litre Tomorite at £3.99, roses start at £7.99 and potentillas from £6.49.
They currently have no club / reward membership scheme at this
garden centre.
CAFE
The cafe is very pleasantly decorated with brick walls
and very large windows to two sides giving it a light and
airy atmosphere. Lots of food is on offer including hot full
meals, snack meals, breakfasts, salads, coffees, teas and
cakes.
We sampled ham salad and it was delicious. The ham
was especially good and the salad crisp with a tasty
coleslaw topping.
