Blackbrooks Garden Centre has been run by the Winchester family when they bought the site in 1988. From that time until 2011 Blackbrooks has undergone steady development in to a largish garden centre. In 2011 Mark Winchester took over the running of the garden centre from his father.

Mark was convinced that garden centres would only achieve maximum profitability if they maintained their core business of selling plants and gardening goods but at the same time expanded into other areas which were not affected adversely by the often inclement British weather.

With this in mind Mark embarked on an ambitious plan to build a new cafe / restaurant.

The cafe has been a resounding success not only on its own merits but also by drawing in more customers to the rest of the garden centre. This led to a reorganisation of the garden centre interior sales area to allow in two new clothes franchises, Cotton Traders and Roman Originals.

Plants are still at the core of Blackbrooks Garden Centre and the exterior plant sales area has wide paths and a design which is functional rather than inspiring. The plants are easy to find and they are in good condition with shrubs and hardy plants having a two year guarantee.

This garden centre does have a reward card / discount scheme, for more details click here.

Food is clearly also central to Blackbrooks Garden Centre! In addition to the new cafe they also have a large Food Hall which stocks locally sourced meats, cheeses, beers and wines, chutneys, pickles and many more deli items. Other departments of note include gifts, cards, books, power tools, a pet shop (no live animals), barbecues and garden furniture. The cafe staff won the prestigious award for Greatest Garden Centre Catering Team in 2014 at the Greatest 2014 Awards - impressive!

The cafe was awarded the top five star rating for food hygiene in October 2013 by Rother District Council.

At Christmas time Blackbrooks make a good attempt to enter into the festive mood with lots of seasonal decorations and gifts, synthetic and natural Christmas trees. Unfortunately they don't provide a Father Christmas for the kids but their menu does become significantly festive at Christmas time.

Deep Thinker
They seem to be more interested in the non gardening stuff and they dont really do either well. They need to invest more in their staff and make them interested in us, their customers
