Askett Nurseries and Garden Centre have been owned by the same family for just over 20 years. Originally they grew many of the plants on site but over the years they have developed into a garden centre buying in plants for sale. They make every effort to buy their plants from British suppliers and indeed when we visited them a large lorry pulled in from a British plant grower.
They specialise in providing good quality plants with lots of informed and personal service even to the extent of providing a free local delivery service. We looked at the plants and they were all in excellent condition and at very reasonable prices. The average gardener will be more than happy with the selection available.
The layout of the plants area is in keeping with a medium sized nursery making it a pleasant place to wander round when looking for plants. To inspire vegetable growers there is a display area with vegetables and top fruit growing throughout the season. Access for wheelchair users is good in most areas.
The medium sized shop stocks a good choice of gardening accessories including seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, bird feed, tools and lots more. There is a plentiful choice of winter fuel, coal, wood and gas. The car park is more than adequate with an overflow car park for the peak season.
They currently have no club / reward membership scheme at this garden centre. Click here if you want to see a comparison of garden garden centres which do have reward / discount cards.
The cafe at Askett Nurseries called the Potting Shed, opened in June 2013. The serve food daily including drinks, cakes, snack meals such as paninis and baked potatoes, main meals including daily specials and salads. They were awarded a three star rating for food hygiene by Wycombe District Council in September 2013 so they have room for improvement in the future.
The shop sells a small range of local produce and this will be expanded into a Farm Shop, also scheduled to open in spring 2013. At Christmas time they sell lots of Christmas trees, seasonal plants including poinsettias and a range of gifts for the gardener.
